In My Backyard: Cooly Rocks On!

The biggest 50’s and 60’s nostalgia festival in Australia is the annual “Cooly Rocks On”.With over 2 kilometres of rock ‘n roll, rockabilly, swing music and over 1,000 hot rods, custom cars and classic vehicles lining the stunning beachfront of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads over two huge weeks from 29 May to 8 June 2015.

This year the Gold Coast really turned on the weather, particularly over the Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend. Crowds flocked to the event which also flowed into the Marine Parade and Griffith Street, Coolangatta and nearby Kirra Beach. There were cars, cars and more cars and people really got into the spirit of the occasion by wearing their 50’s and 60’s attire.

So instead of me telling you about it here are some fab photos of the festival:

    1. It’s always a great spectacle. I love all the old cars and the girls dressed in their 50’s attire. I think it reminds me a bit of my Mum and what she wore in the 50’s.:)

    1. It was heaps of fun. I loved looking at those beautiful full skirts with stiff petticoats underneath. They reminded me of what my Mum wore back in the 50s. The cars were pretty cool too!

  1. We visited here with our daughter when we were staying at North Burleigh with Kathy and Tom!! Sitting lunching in the Wine Bar watching the world go by – is definately something we will hopefully do again next year.

    1. Hello Jenny. Thank you for dropping by my blog and being my guest recently. We loved meeting you and having you stay with us. Cooly Rocks On is getting bigger and better each year, so you should definitely time it to be here at the same time next year. :)

  2. HHHHMMMmmm … so where’s the pic of YOU with your 60’s gear, Kathy?? Looks like great fun and an excellent way to spend the long weekend!

    1. I prefer to be behind the lens instead of in front of it! I love this particular festival in Coolangatta. The fashion, the rock ‘n roll dancing and the cars are so spectacular. You should come and check it out next year.
