Fairlie, a Melbourne blogger who loves to travel and then regale to anyone who will listen at Feet on Foreign Lands, invited me to join an Instagram photo a day challenge during the month of October.
The idea was for Instagramers around the world to showcase their city, village, town, island or hamlet through the #feetonmyhometown Instagram Challenge using a prompt each and every day.
Being an avid Instagramer, I immediately jumped on board and decided to showcase my town on the Gold Coast – Burleigh Heads.
So here are my entries for the month. I hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I did taking up the challenge each day and getting out an about with my camera.
Week 1.
Week 2.
Week 3.
Week 4.
Week 5.
Burleigh Heads in my opinion is the best place to live on the Gold Coast. It not only has beautiful beaches, great surf, rainforested headland, Tallie Creek, green spaces everywhere, but it also has the best in shopping and eating places. I love that Burleigh has a nice easy-going villagey vibe mixed amongst the high rise apartments that line the esplanade.
Where do you live and what do you love about living there?

November 3, 2015Absolutely gorgeous pics…..I love Burleigh Heads too. Great beaches and cafes. What more could you want.
Kathy
November 3, 2015Exactly! What more could you want? Although I love travelling all over Australia and the world I always enjoy coming back home to Burleigh. :)

November 3, 2015Great pics – I made it up to week 2 with #feetonmyhometown until real life took over and I got busy – was lots of fun though :)
Kathy
November 3, 2015I must admit that the photo a day challenge was a big challenge! Living in a town as opposed to a city was little limiting with some of the prompt words. I can entirely understand why you didn’t get through the month. :)

November 3, 2015What a fab idea. Day 7 and 14 are my favourites.
Kathy
November 3, 2015Thanks Michelle, they were probably my two favourite photos as well. I had a lot of fun fulfilling the challenge. :)

November 4, 2015So true Kathy. Burleigh is the best spot on the Gold Coast. Your photos have captured Burleigh’s beauty and humming vibe. Look forward to returning, next year.
Kathy
November 4, 2015I’m so glad you enjoyed my hometown Jenny. I really love showing it to the world in its best light and I hope these series of photos did just that. :)

November 4, 2015What a fabulous idea and great photo’s Kathy! Guess where we are headed for 7 nights in December? Yes – Burleigh Heads – just down the road from us here in Brisbane. I love it there :-)
Kathy
November 4, 2015Thanks Min. Make sure you contact me when you are here and we could meet up for a coffee. You will love Burleigh. There is so much to do and see here. :)

November 4, 2015Burleigh is a lovely place, with a good combination of places to enjoy the natural environment, as well as cafes, the beach and Tallebudgera Creek. I can see why you love living there Kathy :-)
Kathy
November 4, 2015I know I am very lucky to live here. So much natural beauty and great shopping and eateries. :)

November 4, 2015I lived on the Gold Coast in my early 20’s, such a great relaxed vibe. The second best place to live in Australia after Perth (my home town) ;)
Kathy
November 4, 2015There is a lovely relaxed vibe around Burleigh Heads. But I am very biased! I also love Perth and I’m sure it is an awesome place to live. :)

November 4, 2015Day 16 and 27 were my favourites as they gave me a great ‘feel’ for Burleigh. It does look an amazing place to live :)
Kathy
November 4, 2015Burleigh Heads really does have everything if you like beachside living with a villagey vibe. In a way it is a bit like Margaret River (without the wineries). A bit of a surfing culture and alternate feel about it. :)
Ruth
November 4, 2015Great to see all the photos in one post! I live in a small beach town too and I can understand how you feel about your town. It is great to live in a place that has a big sense of community but easily connected to the the amenities of a big city. I love to walk around and find new spots.
Kathy
November 4, 2015Thanks Ruth. It was in fact a real challenge to take a photo each day that would suit the ‘prompt’. After doing quiet a lot of walking around my town I did discover a few new things I never knew about. For example the clock in Burleigh Heads Park and the heritage-listed Queenslander home.

November 4, 2015Great job and showing us around your hometown. That koala statue is my favorite one. I saw Fairlie’s challenge, too, but couldn’t quite get around to doing it. I think I’ve been humdrum about my surroundings ever since I moved back home to Texas. In Malaysia, everything seemed photoworthy, but I’m finding much less inspiration in my hometown.
Kathy
November 4, 2015Thank you. That is such a shame that Texas could not inspire you to do the photo a day challenge. I would probably feel the same about my old hometown in Victoria. The hand-painted koala is really cute. There are many of them on the Gold Coast. :)

November 4, 2015Here here Burleigh is the best! :D You did so well joining in, I did a few photos but was too busy (or maybe it was just lazy?) to do them all.
Thanks for joining in #wednesdaywanderlust
Kathy
November 5, 2015It was a difficult challenge. Some days I had trouble thinking of subject matter that fitted the daily prompts. But I do always love a challenge and never say never! I love my hometown too :) :)

November 4, 2015Great pics from around your town. Well done on taking up the challenge!
Kathy
November 5, 2015Thanks Jill. It was a difficult challenge to say the least but I’m glad I participated and managed to take a photo each day for 31 days. I loved showcasing the place where I live. :)

November 5, 2015Your place looks so beautiful!! I live in the Arctic of Norway and definitely like the mountains and snow the most :)
Kathy
November 5, 2015I adore mountain vistas and snow too. We have such contrasting climates, but wherever we go in the world there is beauty all around. I think that is what I love about travelling to new destinations. :)
Fairlie
November 8, 2015It was so great to have you on board the #feetonmyhometown challenge and you did so well to post for every prompt! It gave me a whole new appreciation of Burleigh Heads and I am kicking myself I didn’t head there for the spare day I had after Problogger this year. Next time!
I love what you’ve done in having all the pics in one post – I think I may steal your idea and make some photo collage posts for my ‘home towns’ of York, Malvern and Melbourne. And PS – even though I made up the prompts, even I found some of them challenging!
Kathy
November 8, 2015Thanks Fairlie, I enjoyed participating in this challenge and I loved showcasing my hometown. It was good to see all the photos collaged together as it gave me an idea of the diversity of Burleigh Heads. I will look forward to seeing your hometowns presented in a similar fashion! Thanks for inviting me on the great challenge. :)

November 13, 2015We’ve stayed in Burleigh a few times (although not for a few years) and agree that it’s the best place on the coast!! Your pix are awesome – I particularly like the Koala art in week two and the pineapples in week 5! But where’s the scenic loos??!!
Kathy
November 13, 2015No I can’t think of one scenic loo in Burleigh Heads! They are all the modern ones in the parklands which have replaced the older ones over the years. Thanks for the compliment. I think those two photos are my favourites as well!
