Lake Towado and Oirase Gorge is where you can relax and slowdown and really immerse yourself in nature. I could easily lose myself in the mystique and beauty of this area.

The Kakunodate Samurai district, which once housed about 80 families, is one of the best examples of Samurai architecture and housing in the country.

Our summer experience in Hakodate-Onuma was far too short to really appreciate what this beautiful region has to offer. It left me with a great desire to see more of Hokkaido and the northern regions of Japan.

The annual Chagu Chagu Umakko Horse Festival is not simply a parade of horses, but the whole farming district gets involved with a gorgeous display of flowering gardens and people from afar and the local community flock to the parade in their thousands to watch the spectacle.

There are few travel experiences in my lifetime that could match the beauty, the cultural stimulation and the food immersion of Northern Japan. My senses overflowed with new tastes, aromas, vistas, sounds of nature and the soft touch of the gentle people in this land.

Yes that’s right, in a few short days I will be turning Japanese and touring parts of Northern Japan on a media trip sponsored by Prince Hotels and All Nippon Airways.
