25 Reasons to Holiday in Australia

I love my country Australia! It is a wondrous place with some of the most gorgeous pristine beaches in the world; rugged outback wildernesses that go on forever; exquisite coral reefs abundant with marine life; and verdant green rainforests that meet the sea. I started to make a list of 25 reasons to holiday in Australia and this is what I came up with:

1.       WEATHER Depending on where you live, Australia experiences temperate weather for most of the year. The average maximum temperature is 29°C in summer and 15–16°C in winter.

2.       BEAUTIFUL BEACHES Australia is home to literally hundreds of beautiful beaches all over the country. The beaches have white white sand and the water varies in colour from a deep blue/green to a light aqua.

3.       WILDERNESS Australia is a place of exceptional natural beauty where ancient rainforests and vast national parks, rugged mountain ranges and reefs, beaches, and waterways, provide sanctuary to Australia’s wondrous wildlife.

4.       THE OUTBACK Also known as the ‘dead centre’ of Australia is a vast expanse of arid deserts, rugged mountain ranges and natural wonders such as Uluru, Kakadu and The Bungle Bungles.

5.       GREAT OCEAN ROAD Take a drive along this 243 kilometres stretch of road along the south-eastern coast of Australia and be astonished at the beauty of the 12 Apostles and London BridgeVisit the many famous surfing beaches along the way or hike into the rainforest areas of the Otways.

6.       OUR RIVERS Australia has an abundance of long wide rivers that are full of clean fresh water and fish and are broadly used for recreational activities.

7.       TWO CODES OF FOOTBALL  Australian Rules Football (AFL), aka ‘Aerial Ping-Pong’, is where the big men fly into the air to mark an oval shaped footie.  Rugby League (NRL) is where the men are built like proverbial “brick shithouses” and tackle one another without body armour or helmets. A brutal sport!

8.      THE GOLD COAST My hometown is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Australia and boasts some of the most magnificent beaches in the world. It’s temperate climate and warm ocean temperatures attracts visitors from all around the world all year round.

9.     BBQ’s Australians enjoy the great outdoors and love to throw a succulent juicy steak or a few prawns on the barbeque for their family and mates. A great Aussie tradition.

10.   HUNKY MEN The term “Bronzed Aussie” is alive and well here down under. Our men are outdoor types who play sport, keep themselves in shape and they are very easy on the eye!

11.    BEAUTIFUL WOMEN Our women are also renowned as being some of the most naturally attractive women in the world. Their toned tanned bikini bodies are a sight to behold!

12.    SYDNEY HARBOUR A visit to Australia would not be complete without visiting the spectacular city of Sydney and its magical harbour which is commonly referred to as the most beautiful natural harbour in the world.  Take in the views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House.

15.   REAL COFFEE – not just Starbucks We have some of the best coffee shops and finest freshly ground and roasted coffee made to order in the world.

16.   CUTE WILDLIFE  Koalas, Kangaroos, Wombats, Wallabies and Platypuses, to name a few of Australia’s native wildlife.

As a result we offer some of the best world cuisine. We also have vast farming areas which produce top quality meats, cereals and fresh fruit and vegetables, along with delicious seafood.

24.   RAINFORESTS Some of our rainforest, such as the Daintree, are world heritage listed and offer some of the lushest verdant forests, full of wildlife, in the world.

25.   OUR HISTORY Although our country is relatively young, we have a rich and colourful history based upon the transportation of convicts to our land, the settlement of the colonies and the great Gold Rush era in our country.

Kathy, this is great, although you left one big reason off the list: Australia has some of the best WINES in the world (many of which they do not export)!

    • Kathy
      December 18, 2013

Oh darn, I knew there was another reason! How could I mention our beer and forget about our wine? Of course our wine is superb. Thanks for dropping by Valerie.

What a great wrap Kathy! I loved the ‘hunky men’ one lol ;) Who wouldn’t want to live in this country after your round up? We live in an amazing country. We’ve been in WA for five years and I can attest to everything you say, except we have so much space and much of it unoccupied. We also have Australia’s Golden Outback encompassing Esperance a place of such amazing beach scenery that it’s hard to believe. Great post!

No guns and real coffee, why wouldn’t you, happy trails, let me know when you get to Perth xxx Rae

    December 18, 2013

Well I had to give the hunky men a mention! I love your part of the country and hope to explore it further during our six month jaunt. We hope to visit Esperance and Albany as we have heard that the scenery is magnificent. We live in a land of many contrasts and I think that is what is so appealing about it.

I can never get a decent cup of coffee overseas and I detest guns. I think that we are extremely lucky to live in a place where it is relatively safe. We are definitely heading over to the West next year and I will be blogging about our travels. I will keep you posted :)

I don’t need 25 reasons to holiday in Australia – but I loved reading them anyway!! The other thing with the weather is that however crap the weather is where you are, Australia’s so big there’s sure to be a place somewhere with perfect weather!

    • Kathy
      February 21, 2015

Well I could definitely be somewhere else this weekend. We have experienced a cyclone and torrential rain for the past few days! I still wouldn’t live anywhere else however. :)

What a great post, Kathy and we really are so lucky to live in Australia aren’t we. I’m guilty of travelling overseas but we hope to visit Tasmania this year. Have a fabulous holiday and take care.xx

    • Kathy

I love our beautiful country too. I am so glad I was born here! You’ve listed some wonderful reasons why we are such a fabulous country here. I also love that we are an island country. We don’t border other countries. We are our own country all unto ourselves. I hope to see more of our country in the coming years. It’s a treasure! :-) #TeamLovinLife

    • Kathy
      January 25, 2018

Yes being an island country does have its benefits. I still have a lot more of our country to explore and I’m about to set off to tick a few more items off my bucket list. I’m a very proud Aussie!

  • Natalie
    January 25, 2018

Australia is on my list to visit, Kathy. It’s a long way from Canada and Aus is a big country so I need to give my trip lots of time, or go more than once :)

    • Kathy
      January 25, 2018

Natalie, I have been to your beautiful country twice! So what’s stopping you? Come on over!! #TeamLovinLife

The three biggest bonuses for me are: 1) you can eat a variety of food and drink our water without worrying about gastro. 2) the climate is amazing all year round. 3) there is a HUGE variety of places to go and things to do – it’s not all the same like a lot of smaller countries.
Gorgeous photos and great post Kathy x

    • Kathy
      January 25, 2018

These are three very good reasons to holiday in Australia Leanne. Having drinkable water and safe food is a definite bonus as I nearly always get sick in Asian countries. We do have a great variety of things to do and see – something to appeal to everyone. Good points! #TeamLovinLife

This is such a fabulous post! I’d add to that our diversity, but mostly, looking at these pics, the amazing natural colour – as a reason on its own!

    • Kathy
      January 25, 2018

Thanks Jo. Yes our diversity is a definite plus and like you say our vibrant colours of nature. We love our sunburnt country for sure!

PS Three codes of football … Don’t forget our Wallabies! we have a hell of a lot of Rugby Union fans around us in Canberra (I’m personally not a fan though – much prefer the NRL over rugby).

What a fun post, we currently have German friends staying with us, they have been to Melbourne, cycled in Tassie, visited Phillip Island, now here in Mallacoota and then heading to Sydney and home. It is really interesting seeing our town through their eyes.

    • Kathy
      January 28, 2018

Oh yes it is always wonderful to show friends around your own backyard. We spent a night in Iluka recently and our friends who have moved here showed us around this lovely little fishing village. They were fabulous tour guides and we appreciated the tour. #TeamLovinLife

So many great reasons to visit Australia! I would add a few more, like Coober Pedy – home to opal mining and underground dwellings, the Nullarbor Plain, and Wave Rock – though I guess these all fit in your “Outback” category.

    • Kathy
      January 29, 2018

Yes I would definitely add those place too Fleur. I haven’t been to Coober Pedy or Wave Rock but have travelled across the Nullarbor. Australia really does have a remarkable outback. #TeamLovinLife

  • Joanne Smith
    February 13, 2018

I am heading out there in a few months to travel with a friend, then try to visit all the beaches that have been on our list and now we are just waiting for our visa to get approved. We did get it on a third party site this one https://www.travelvisaaustralia.com.au/. Btw, what are the best Beaches that you’ve been in Australia?

    • Kathy
      February 14, 2018

You will absolutely love the beaches in Australia. There are so many beautiful beaches and far too many to recommend. Australia is a vast country so it depends which part you’re travelling to. East or West Coast?
