Yeppoon, Capricorn Coast
Once regarded as a sleepy little seaside village, Yeppoon is the gateway to the Capricorn Coast and is located 38km north-east of Rockhampton on the central coast of Queensland.
With a backdrop of the offshore Keppel Islands, sparkling azure seas, a picturesque esplanade, a wide array of boutiques, surf stores and trendy cafes, is it any wonder that tourists flock to this area.
Marvel at the luxurious yachts moored at the Rosslyn Bay Harbour which is the departure point for boat cruises to the Keppel Islands. Enjoy a meal at the licensed restaurant overlooking the harbour or stroll out onto the jetty.
Stop at the lookout at Kemp Beach with magnificent views of beaches, harbour and the Keppel Islands. Watch the hang-gliders soar effortlessly off the bluff or see if you can spot a dolphin or turtle in the crystal clear waters below.
Emu Park
A scenic 20 Km drive along the coast from Yeppoon, Emu Park is a peaceful seaside village which has a laid-back feel. It is home to the famous ‘Singing Ship’ sculpture which was built in honour of Captain James Cook to commemorate his visit to the region when exploring the Queensland coastline in 1770.
Emu Park is an idyllic holiday destination with lovely shady parks and pretty beaches to enjoy. The local estuaries are renowned for good fishing so grab a line and try your luck.
Yeppoon and the entire Capricorn Coast with it’s location at the southern end of the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef, is a fabulous destination for snorkelling, diving and boating. Places like these need to be experienced to be believed!
Yeppon looks like a beautiful spot. Another place to add to the bucket list Kathy, which just keeps growing. I’ve always wanted to try hang gliding!
Don’t worry my bucket list is endless! You are much braver than me wanting to try hang gliding. It did make for a very attractive picture however. :)
What a great series of posts this has been. We loved Yeppoon even though we only had a short stop over there a couple of years ago. Was such a relaxed atmosphere there.

I love all the strange rocks sticking up out of the ocean in Yeppoon. Balsa rocks I think they are. They’re scattered everywhere on the drive in too.
Oh yeah I remember those. There is also a mountain (or hill) called Meikleville Hill where you can do some walks and get a bird’s eye view of the Capricorn Coast and Keppel Islands. This is probably balsa rock as well. :)
