2015: What a Year!

2015 has been epic! My New Year’s resolution was to grow my blog and of course get out and about in my own backyard and bring some fabulous posts to my readers and fellow travel enthusiasts.

Although I put a lot of hours into my blog (just ask my husband – he thinks I’m obsessed!), I do have a part-time job writing blogs and doing social media promotion for hotel websites. This year I have been sent out and about visiting some of the hotels/holiday homes on the Sunshine Coast, Byron Bay and Brisbane. I love my job!!

This year for the first time I attended the Problogger Conference, held here on the Gold Coast, and although I was overwhelmed by the magnitude of this event I came away from it feeling as if I gained a lot of blogging and photography knowledge.

Also this year my travels included a trip to New Orleans, Boston and New York in the USA, with an ocean cruise to Mexico and The Caribbean tossed in amongst it. In November my husband and I continued our Aussie adventures with 12 days touring around Tassie in a small campervan. We are so blessed!

Without further ado here is my year in pictures:

January

Lunch at Beechmont

Lunch at Beechmont in the Gold Coast Hinterland, with amazing views like these, on a sizzling hot January day with our son, his girlfriend and her family was a real treat and a cool change.

March was a quiet month but I do always have my iPhone with me when I get out and about on the Gold Coast.

April

May

Boston Common

Four days in Boston after we disembarked from our cruise. What an interesting city! So full of wonderful green spaces, harbour views, delicious cuisine and loads of history.

New York

New York

Then on to New York for a whole week. This Gothic inspired cathedral caught me eye near the entrance to the Rockefeller Centre in downtown NYC.

June

The people of Cooly Rocks

The people of Cooly Rocks

Cooly Rocks this year was not only about the great classic and vintage cars, but it was also about the people who dressed up in their 50s and 60s frocks.

July

View of Mt Warning from Cram Farm

We took our visitors staying with us (my husband’s cousin) for a trip to Mt Tamborine and enjoyed a glass of wine at the warm fireside inside St Bernards historical hotel.

Noosa National Park Walk

A work assignment to Noosa Heads and Caloundra had me taking a long leisurely walk into the Noosa Heads National Park.

October

The Cooly Gold ironman/ironwoman event was held on the Gold Coast and I captured this shot taken from North Burleigh Headland.

A work retreat with work colleagues for a long weekend at Byron Bay which involved a lot of walking, a yoga session and lots of eating and drinking.

November

Bay of Fires, Tasmania

Bay of Fires, Tasmania

We toured around Tasmania for 12 days in a small campervan. One of my favourite areas in Tasmania was the Bay of Fires on the East Coast and you can probably understand why from this photo. Exquisite!

December

Point Arkwright, Coolum

I love this late afternoon/early evening capture at the beach at Point Arkwright, Coolum. My daughter lives here and we were visiting her for Christmas.

So how was your year? Did you travel to anywhere interesting or attend some wonderful events? I would love to hear about it.

So many of us are tempted to say ‘oh, I really didn’t do much this year.’ It’s not till we look back on photos that we realise where we’ve been and what we’ve seen and the wonderful people we’ve met along the way. Here’s to more travels in 2016 Kathy.

You are so right Pam. Reflecting back on our past year really puts it all in perspective. Sometimes I wonder how I fitted so much in! I’m fortunate to have 4 holidays planned for this coming year so there will certainly be lot’s of more adventures coming my way!

Great summary of your year Kathy. You’ve inspired me to do something similar although I’ve been nowhere and done nothing so I don’t think mine will be as interesting. St Bernards is gorgeous isn’t it!

You will be surprised of what your achievements have been throughout the past year Michelle. You had a holiday here on the Gold Coast, you attended ProBlogger Conference, you put your house on the market, you retired from your teaching position, you wrote a book and I’m sure there are many more!! Yes I agree St Bernards is a gorgeous place. :)

Fabulous Kathy, I have a few trips away this year, I hope my photos do the places I visit justice like yours do. New Orleans and Jazz would be top of my list X

Thanks Rae. You will love New Orleans and the Jazz culture. It was one of the highlights of my epic year! All you need to do is aim and click with your camera. Cameras these days do all the work! :)

Happy New Year Kathy! What great photos, I particularly like the New Orleans street jazz shot. We had two overseas trips in 2015, one to Bali and one to France with stopovers in Hong Kong. We loved both but most particularly France as it unfolded itself before our eyes.
We also did some domestic travel – road trips – the latest of those took us to Brisbane for Christmas via Canberra, Blue Mountains, Sydney, Tweed Coast, Noosa and Mooloolaba. Quite a trip.

Thank you Jan. Happy New Year to you too! I am very envious of your trip to France. It is on my bucket list but first I want to travel to Italy. I have done the road trip from both Canberra to Gold Coast and Sydney to Gold Coast many times but I have never been to the Blue Mountains. Another place I’d love to see. :)
