The Sisterhood of The World Blogger Award

sisterhood-award

I’m so chuffed to be nominated for the “Sisterhood of The World Bloggers Award” by my lovely friend Jan at Budget Travel Talk. I recently met Jan for the first time in person at the Problogger Conference on the Gold Coast and we hit it off straight away. Jan and I are a similar age and both do a bit of travelling in our caravans around Australia, so we have this in common.

This particular award I believe was originally created for female bloggers to network and learn about one another within the blogging world. When I received this nomination I started thinking about the wonderful relationship I have struck up with fellow bloggers over the years and how we all support one another through various means.

Giving and receiving Blogging Awards is one such way to find out more about one another and promote other’s blogs. There are so many travel bloggers in the blogosphere now that it is becoming very competitive. Although I would love to think that my travel posts may lead to getting a cool travel article published on a tourism website or in a magazine, I know that this is just “pie in the sky”.

So I was given ten travel themed questions to respond to, so here goes:

 1.  An Inspiring Travel Memoir Book you have read

Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I enjoyed this novel about a woman whose marriage disintegrates so she embarks on a world travel experience in Italy, India and then Bali. Trip of self-discovery aside, the descriptions of the places she visits are enough to make you want to pack your bags and set off to Italy.

2.  My First Blog Post

Was titled “The Invisible Age” which was inspired by the fact that I was in my early 50s, working as a Bookkeeper in a very boring job, my children had left home and I was looking for something to do with my life. Hence, I started writing about being in my 50s and feeling invisible to the world.

3.  My only Bragworthy Upgrade Experience

One year when we were in Phuket we booked into a 5 Star Resort at Kata Beach and upon arrival we were informed that we had been upgraded to an executive suite. Our suite was massive and had a large bedroom, living area, study, kitchen and huge bathroom with a spa bath. We overlooked the gorgeous landscaped gardens and swimming pool of the resort with the mountains as the backdrop.

4.  Where in the World would I not return to?

Having been to Phuket in Thailand on three occasions, I probably wouldn’t return there in the future. However I never say never!

5.  My Top 3 Destinations/Experiences

  • Broome and The Kimberley in West Australia
  • Turquoise Coast of Turkey
  • Canada
Kas in Turkey

6.  What I enjoy most about other’s blogs and social media feeds

I enjoy looking at travel photos and learning about new travel destinations. Basically everything to do with travel really. I also enjoy a bit of humour.

7.  My carry-on luggage and what is in it

A handbag with all the usual contents plus a medium sized backpack with book, magazine, tablet, small amount of makeup, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrush, change of underwear, jacket and of course my travel pillow.

8.  The first thing I do at a new destination is ……

Check out what there is to do and see in the place by gathering brochures from the hotel reception desk or when we were caravanning visiting the Tourist Information Centre in town and gathering tourist information.

9.  My most popular blog post ……

“25 Inspirational Quotes for the Over 50s”. This was probably the easiest blog post to prepare, as all I did was find suitable quotes and copy them! I often find that the posts I put little effort into tend to do well. Go figure!!

10. What makes a memorable moment for me

A beautiful sunset always gets me, particularly when it is accompanied with a lovely chilled glass of wine.

Malinda at My Brown Paper Packages

Jenny at Our Milan Transfer

Melissa at All Around Oz

Michele at A Taste For Travel

Min at Write of the Middle

Here are the rules for this award:

2. Answer the above questions about yourself.

It’s so interesting finding out about other bloggers online, even if we can’t sit and chat over a cup of coffee in real life, these sort of posts are revealing (in a nice way). I also enjoyed reading Eat Pray Love, love a sunset with a glass of wine, and am awed by the Kimberley :)

I enjoy reading about other bloggers as well and what inspires them to write. It is a shame that we can’t get together for that cup of coffee! It would be lovely. :) We sound like kindred spirits!

Am a sometimes empty nester. Have relocated interstate and dreaming of travel once again. Backpacked for a few months around Europe and America in my 20’s (omg is it that long ago) I too love a beautiful sunset with a glass of chardy . My next trip is to New Zealand in Jan. Hope to go on a walking tour with one of my daughters as well

Hi Marie, New Zealand is a great place to visit. I have been there three times and have enjoyed it immensely. You must have been very adventurous as a youngster. I never started to travel until I was in my forties and now you can’t stop me! Thank you for dropping by my blog. :)

Looks like you, me AND Jo all have something in common – the same three things! Except make mine sparkline :D

Oops! Fat finger glitch! Of course I mean “sparkling”!!!

    • Kathy
      October 20, 2015

I will allow you to enjoy a glass of sparkling – why not?!! I think most of us appreciate the natural beauty of a sunset and a nice glass of whatever at the end of the day, particularly when we are travelling. The simple things in life are the best! :)

Kathy, I loved reading your answers to these questions, especially question 9. Isn’t it interesting to see what resonates with readers. Thank you for the nomination. What fun!

      October 20, 2015

You are very welcome Jenny. With all the time and effort I put into my travel posts and they don’t rate as well as some of the other subjects I write about! Sometimes I wonder why I do it!! I will look forward to reading your answers. :)

Great post, you travel girls do well. I’m not ready to travel yet but when I do I’ll know where to head to xxx

Thanks Rae. Travelling is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Make it sooner rather than later!!! :)

I need to get a travel pillow. Gosh that would make things more bearable! My fave post of yours was the job application. It was gold. But I love everything you write Kathy :)

      October 21, 2015

The little u-shaped travel pillows are the best, but just a bit of a pain to carry. You are too kind Michelle. Sometimes when I read some of my posts I cringe as they are so badly written. I guess we are all our own worst critics!

Meeting other bloggers in person is very satisfying. Forging friendships on line and then cementing them in the flesh. I loved meeting up with you on the Gold Coast Kathy. I see that Pinky liked your Job Application post – I shall have to go find it!

    • Kathy
      October 21, 2015

Yes I have enjoyed meeting other bloggers in person. They are always exactly as they portray themselves in their blogs, which is good. Ha ha, so you found my job application! What do you think? Will you give me the job? :)

It’s a wonderful blogging world out there. I have made so many connections across the world that I would never had made without blogging. But it would be cool to meet some of them in person some day.

      October 23, 2015

I have made some wonderful connections too Jill. Every morning I wake up and can’t wait to see what my blogging friends have been up to and where their inspiration is coming from, whether it be from events in their life, travel, nature or eating out. It would be nice if we all had a meetup one of these days. Can you imagine how much conversation there would be? :)
