A – Z Highlights of South Australia

Looking back over photos of our trip around Australia and in particular South Australia it was difficult to select the highlights. There were so many! Our trip took us mainly around the coastal regions of South Australia from the border of Victoria along the Limestone Coast, The Coorong, Lake Alexandrina and Murray River, the Fleurieu Peninsula, Clare Valley, Yorke Peninsula and the huge Eyre Peninsula to the vast expanse of the Nullarbor Plain.

Hi Kathy, You saw a lot in S.A. I’ve been to Wave Rock but didn’t know about Pildappa Rock! You can tell I’m hungry by my next two questions. Did you have to shuck the oysters yourself? Did you catch any Squid?

We really enjoyed South Australia. It is so much more than Adelaide and the wine regions. I would love to get into the Flinders Ranges too – maybe next time! We did have to shuck our oysters, but my husband is an old hand at it. No squid was caught off the jetty in Cowell, but I had a lot of fun trying!

We’ve seen a fair bit of S.A. I remember the beaches and of course the Borrossa and Clare Valleys but it is definitely time to go again. Did you camp/caravan or other on your way around Australia?

South Australia was incredible. We travelled around Australia’s coastline in 4WD and caravan and did a lot of free camping. It was definitely the way too go, with all the mod cons such as our own toilet and shower. It was the trip of a lifetime! :)

Oh Kathy! You had me at oysters at Coffin Bay! But what a wonderful array of things you’ve seen in S.A. I really like the way you’ve done an A to Z list, and it’s a great resource for anyone wanting to visit this part of Australia.

South Australia was very diverse with spectacular coastal scenery, beaches, world famous wine regions, historical villages and the magnificent Flinders Ranges. The A to Z was not strictly alphabetical by place name but it gives you an idea of the beauty and diversity of SA. :)

Like the others I feel hungry after looking at that photo of the oysters. You have a knack for photographing sunsets Kathy!

The oysters were to die for and they were so cheap! We sampled a lot of oysters on our travels and there was nothing better than eating oysters fresh from the shell accompanied by a nice crisp chilled glass of Sav Blanc. One of life’s pleasures! That sunrise over the Flinders Ranges was outstanding, but it was the scenery and the camera, not the photographer, that does it justice! :)

Hi Corinne, I barely touched the surface of South Australia. There were so many more beautiful spots and I run out of alphabet! I would be happy for you to share this post – go for it! :)

Yes it is Nancie. When people ask me for my favourite place in Australia I am always lost for words. There are just so many beautiful and diverse places of beauty.:)

Awesome, Kathy! I saw this post title but I didn’t want to read it until I’d finished my own SA post – interesting that we have some of the same things! I think that shows we both have GREAT taste!! I’m looking forward to seeing some of the places you’ve shown that I haven’t been to yet – there’s so much to see, so little time :D

We barely crossed paths except for Victor Harbour and Head of Bight. SA is such a huge state there is plenty of room for the two of us!! I loved how you gave one word to sum up each state – very clever. Just to forewarn you I am doing an A-Z on WA next, but it will just be a photographic one. I’m getting really itchy feet again and we are currently planning a road trip around Tassie. Can’t wait!!
