Being a woman, when it comes to cars I pretty much just want something that is reliable, economical, reasonably comfortable and easy to drive from A to B. I’m not one of those women who has to drive a flashy car around to pretend that I have money. However, as I’ve gotten older I’m becoming more and more concerned about car safety and protecting myself from injury or worse.
A good friend of mine recently got rear-ended in a car accident which completely totalled her car and left her with minor injuries and post traumatic stress. It made me rethink how safe my little car is and whether it would survive a similar accident. I really don’t think it would hold up under the same circumstances.
After doing some research on a few cars I came up with a SUV that is billed as one of the safest cars in the world. The 2015 Volvo XC90 not only looks stylish but is packed with safety features that even the most nervous driver would feel safe in.
For starters it has a solid safety cage which is made from hot-formed boron steel, the strongest type of steel currently used in the car body industry and is said to offer maximum occupant protection in all types of crash scenarios. And they know this because the vehicle has undergone three unique tests at the Volvo Cars Safety Centre in Gothenburg, Sweden: a frontal offset crash test at 64km/h, a side impact crash test at 55km/h, and a rollover crash test at 48km/h.
There are two other world first innovations: run-off road protection and auto brake at intersections. The auto brake at intersections keeps an electronic eye out for cars that you might hit at an intersection. If a collision is deemed likely, the system will automatically apply the brakes to avoid or lessen the severity of an accident.
The 2015 XC90 can also detect when it’s about to run off the road and into trouble. What a clever little SUV!
Other safety features include pre-crash protection for rear impacts, advanced rollover prevention and protection, auto city braking functions, extended road sign information, blind spot information, and queue assist autonomous driving.
The two things that challenge most women drivers are reversing and parking. Well the Volvo XC90 has also got that covered with a reverse-view camera and auto parking with front and rear sensors. I’m already dreaming about how handy these features would be.
The XC90 is also luxuriously appointed with high-quality leather interior seats, an infotainment system with an expansive portrait-aligned touchscreen and internet-linked apps and connectivity services. I just love all the techno stuff!
Now I know a lot of you would be thinking a car like this would be way out of my price range, but I look at it as an investment in your safety and longevity. The time has come for us to take care of ourselves and ensure that we protect ourselves against all those bad-ass drivers on the road these days. The 2015 Volvo XC90 has my vote for the most stylish and safest SUV on the market.
