We have all heard of the idiom “the icing on the cake” which means something good that is added to another good thing.  This perfectly describes my very talented and beautiful daughter. She is not only very smart but she can decorate a cake as good as any professional cake decorator that I have seen.

A strange past-time for a young girl, you might say.  But I think that I may be partly responsible because I have always been hobby orientated.  I wrote about hobbies in my post last year titled ‘Are Hobbies a thing of the past?’ and asked the question what has happened to people having hobbies?

I therefore thought I would share some of the cake decorating projects that my hobbyist daughter has undertook in the past couple of years.  Believe me it takes a lot of time and patience to undertake this particular hobby – it is very fiddly and somewhat sticky!

A very impressive portfolio for someone so young.  I guess you can have the cake and eat it too!

What a very talented daughter you have Kathy! And those cakes look incredible. I can’t imagine how fiddly it must be though. Reckon she will be much in demand as a truly ‘yummy mummy’ one day when she has children (perhaps) and all the other Mums beg her to design and decorate imaginative cakes. Also a career in the making if she was inclined maybe?

Not that I’m bragging, (but I am!), she is a final year med student and although she has time to decorate cakes, she doesn’t have time to procreate! If she doesn’t make a very good doctor she will certainly make a good cake decorator!

Extremely talented daughter Kathy! Decorating cakes is a form of art and I admire anyone who does it. You must be so proud of a daughter who is able to combine scientific excellence with artistic ability :)

Thanks Pinky. It does take a lot of time and patience to decorate a cake. I certainly don’t have the skills or the patience! I think it is a bit of an outlet for her from an extremely stressful course.

Mmmm, they do look delicious don’t they! Like all mums, I am very proud of my daughter. I’m just not sure where all this creativeness came from!

Wow, I can’t believe all the amazing cakes she has decorated! If medicine doesn’t work out, I think she would rock the cake decorating world!

Thanks Janet, I totally agree. Maybe she will make a good Plastic Surgeon with those fine motor skills! I’ll be first in line if she does!

The thought process that goes into each design is remarkable. What a talented, lovely daughter you have. Congratulations Mom!

Thank you Barbara. The cakes are most certainly a work of art. I am a very proud mum!
