Spread the love
It is that time of year when we are faced with the question “what do I wear”? to special occasions, like weddings, parties, Melbourne Cup Race days or casual lunches out with friends. I, like everyone, always has trouble finding something age appropriate but not frumpy, for these special occasions. The selection of dresses are sometimes more suitable for twenty year olds and are way too short and sassy for my middle-aged body. Alternatively they are extremely ugly, unshapely and way too long (for my petite frame).
So my mission was to find age appropriate dresses for four different occasions that look smart and would flatter most body shapes. So here goes:
The Spring Wedding
Yes these four dresses are fairly body hugging but with the aid of some Spanx or ‘body shapers’, which are everywhere in the shops, you can give yourself a lovely streamlined silhouette under these frocks. I have discovered the all-in-ones are the best because you don’t get any visible bulges over the top of the slimming garment (which is not a nice look!) Also a pair of platform or sky-scraper high heels (if you dare), gives you some height and elongates your body making you appear slimmer.
A Day at The Races
Black and white is very popular for a day at the Races. Team your outfit with a ‘fascinator’ or a cute little hat and you will look the part. I have selected two dresses with a peplum because I feel that they flatter most women by emphasizing their waists and hiding the spare tyre that we tend to accumulate around our middles. The fourth dress is in the stunning shade of citrus which is very popular right now. Team this dress with black accessories as it goes very well with this colour. You will definitely stand out from the crowd in this one!
The Christmas or New Year’s Party
This time of year we need to start thinking about what we are going to wear to our Christmas party functions and then there is New Year’s Eve. I have gone for three soft floating numbers in bright bright colours. I have also included a more subtle little black dress in lace. The Flirt chiffon dress looks incredible and would suit all body shapes with it’s A-line shape, (so you can tuck into that Christmas feast!)
I like ‘doing lunch’ with the girls and when the weather warms up I like to wear a little simple shift dress in a variety of interesting colours and prints. There are many lovely prints available, like geometric, digi-prints, Aztec or Asian inspired prints. The colours are also endless with black and white being prevalent or black and white with a splash of a bright colour like citrus or coral. I love the electric blue colour that is around in the shops at the moment as well.
So ladies get yourself out of those boring Winter jeans and long pants and try out a few different styles of dresses. They not only look smart but are cool and comfortable and hide a few figure flaws. There is nothing more ‘feel-good’ and feminine than a new frock!
