Cruising South-East Asia
Vietnam

Mekong River, Vietnam

A certain girl is having her birthday next month and her lovely hubby is treating her with her favourite gift – a holiday!!! Yes I am setting sail again on the high seas of South-East Asia on a 15 day luxury cruise with Princess Cruises (and not on one of the boats shown above!)

Although I have travelled to many of the places in South-East Asia there are a couple that I have never visited before. In particular I’m looking forward to Langkawi and Penang in Malaysia, Cambodia and Brunei. Cruising is a get way to get a small snippet of a lot of different countries and destinations. Check out the latest cruise deals and prices.

Our 15 day itinerary includes:

  1. Singapore

    Shopping Singapore

    Shopping in Singapore in 2012

  2. Penang, Malaysia
  3. Langkawi, Malaysia
  4. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

    Kuala Lumpur 2009

    Kuala Lumpur 2009

  5. Return to Singapore
  6. Brunei
  7. Nha Trang, Vietnam
  8. Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

    Hoi An in Vietnam 2012

    Hoi An in Vietnam 2012

  9. Cambodia
  10. Bangkok, Thailand
  11. Ko Samui, Thailand

    Koh Samui in 2010

    Koh Samui in 2010

The remaining 4 days will be spent at sea. However, now that I am a seasoned cruiser I know from past experience that there is plenty to do onboard during the at sea days. This particular cruise ship boasts 4 swimming pools, poolside cinemas,  a tranquil onboard oasis area just for adults, day spa, gym and fitness area, 9 restaurants, coffee shop, internet cafe and shops. Am I making you jealous yet?

Thailand

Each day on the cruise you arrive at a different port and you can either explore the town or city on your own or you can book day tours. From experience day tours are a great way of seeing some of the destinations and can include a lot of adventurous activities such as river and mangrove cruises, kayaking tours, hikes, pedicab tours and elephant treks or tours to temples, beaches, buddhas, markets and jungles. Then there is always the shopping in ports such as Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. These places are a shopaholic’s dream!

It will be interesting to compare this cruise with Norwegian Cruise Lines as far as facilities, comfort, activities and food goes. I will definitely keep you all posted. Bon voyage!!

Have you been on a cruise or to any of these countries in South-East Asia?

I don’t know about action but there will be some serious cocktail drinking and reclining around the pool going on! Ha ha, :)

Great itinerary. I have never cruised South-East Asia, however I have been on cruises before. They are very useful for traveling to places where accommodation is very expensive.

It was a good itinerary, however on the downside we found many of the ports were a long distance from the city or town that the cruise indicated on the schedule. For example Bangkok was at least a two hour drive from the port, as was Kuala Lumpur. We did enjoy the places we visited all the same. :)

That sounds like a wonderful itinerary. What a great gift! We have cruised many times and mostly with Princess. I actually like their formality more than Norwegian’s freestyle cruising. But, most of the time it really is about the itinerary. Bon Voyage!

It was a great gift Mary! I am very fortunate to have such a generous husband who also shares my love of travel. We found certain features on Princess that were better than Norwegian and others that weren’t as good. They probably were on even pegging I think. It was a memorable cruise. :)
